The Kumeyaay Indians lived in the area for hundreds of years. In 1542, Spanish claimed the area. Several Native American Indians in the area today are the Kumeyaay tribe descandants. In 1911, Chula Vista was founded and incorporated. The city grew rapidly with several major developments.
